  • 2 pounds/900 g tilapia fillets
  • 1 cup/240 mL vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon/15 mL vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons/10 mL cayenne or red pepper flakes

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.
  2. Combine all ingredients except for the tilapia. Mix well until the salt is dissolved.
  3. Place tilapia in a glass dish and cover with marinade. Turn to coat and set aside for 20 minutes.
  4. Preheat grill.
  5. Pour marinade into a saucepan and bring to a boil, reduce heat and let simmer on low for about 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool.
  6. Grill tilapia fillets over medium-high heat for about 4 to 5 minutes per side or until the internal temperature at the thickest part of fish reaches between 145 to 150 F.
  7. Serve by pouring a small amount of the sauce over the tilapia fillets.
